A few months ago, Erika told me that not getting enough sleep would cause new moles to form...or at least that's what I gathered from the conversation =P
I was at once a fervent believer of this notion. Hadn't I been noticing a legion of new baby moles appearing everywhere? I definitely had way more than three years ago, and I was pretty sure that one had newly appeared on my wrist (or rather the back of my wrist? It's weird; I only think of the side of my wrist that's on the same side of the palm of my hand as my wrist. I don't really have a word for the other side. It's just the other side!).
On the scientific side, I could see how moles and a lack of sleep might be related. Melanin is related to sleep, so maybe if you don't get enough sleep the melanin just builds up and at a certain point it just pushes out a cute lil mole when it gets to be too much!
Then yesterday, during Nutrition, good ol' Prof Matt Hayes was touching on different types of melanoma and I decided it was the perfect time to clarify the whole melanin/mole issue.
Me: "My friend told me if you don't sleep enough, it leads to new moles being formed, why does this happen?? Is it true?"
Matt: "Heh...*mental eye-roll* ah-ha no.." ::laughter::
Me: "HAHA..oh.. hahahahahahhaha..."
Matt: explains something.
Me: "hahahhahaha!!!!"
Ekaete: "Good one."
So I guess Matt doesn't think it's true, but I still think this explanation has merit.
